Tower Crane Base – Leeds University

Introduction: As part of the Leeds University development, Moortown Construction were required to cast a concrete piled foundation, for the tower crane.

Challenges: Moortown Construction engaged NTS (UK) to provide excavation support. The working area was small, adjacent to existing foundations and had to be installed around previously cast concrete piles – slide rail proved to be the optimum solution.

Solution: Slide rail was installed with a single tracked excavator, with minimal disturbance in terms of vibration. Installation time was a fraction of that, which would have been required for a conventional sheet and frame solution (installation time 3.5hrs).

Equipment: 4 No 5,000mm x 1,400mm panels; 4 No 3,500mm corner posts.
