Introduction: As part of the New Siemens Mobility Train Manufacturing Plant in Goole (producing the new Piccadilly Line tube trains, as well as future mainline trains), HH Construction was contracted to install 2 No SPEL 500 Series Puraceptors, the largest tank being 16.75m in length. NTS (UK) were engaged to carry out the Design and Supply of the excavation support, safe ladder access and edge protection – it was critical that the excavations included clear openings.
Challenges: Following the soil analysis and assessment of the site conditions, NTS Slide Rail was proven to be the best form of support. The clear opens were achieved by incorporating the “tie-back” system, which meant the rolling struts could be removed once the concrete blinding struts had cured.
Solution: NTS (UK) supplied a master kit of Slide Rail, a modular system, allowing for one set of equipment to suit two excavations: 18.3m x 4.3m & 14.3m x 5.2m, both 4.5m deep.
Entry was made, using NTS (UK) ladder platforms – these were accompanied by Emergency Safety Davit Systems.
